Hadar, Haifa
spring 2016/2017
Below is a quote from an open letter submitted by the residents of Hadar neighborhood to the mayor of Haifa stating the problems they encounter living in the neighborhood.

Lack of playgrounds, educational facilities, street lights and feelings of security in public are the main issues listed. The same issues appeared in answers to a questionnare distributed to the residents by Technion students.
I decided to use “security” as a concept and include other issues under it, thus trying to solve them through a program that aims to create a secure space by providing public solutions to the missing facilities and examining the psychological factors of fear and how they can affect the design of public space.

The program I chose is both commercial and educational, in order to mix small commerce and education within residential neighborhoods, by turning abandoned buildings into cafes and centers that run workshops, and open spaces into places of recreation and play. In addition to planting urban libraries near public staircases in order to transform it into places of relaxation and transition at once.
